MCA T20 roundup
Melbourne Uni had an entertaining but disappointing day at the annual MCA T20 tournament on Sunday (3 January 2010), losing both round robin T20 matches narrowly.
In game one, MUCC held the Coles Sharkes to 140 thanks to some fine bowling from Sarve (1/16 from 4) and Ditchburn (2/19 from 4), but were restricted to 9/138 in our chase, with 5 run outs costing us dearly as we tried to stick with the required rate towards the end. Sarve completed a man of the match performance scoring 56 (43 balls), while Gabrielson 32 (30) and Hanrahan 25 (17) scored quickly and Chris Guy 7no (3) tried to get us home at the end.
In game two, MUCC again bowled well, keeping Sacred Heart to 126 with Ditchburn again bowling extremely well (2/17 off 4) while Alexander also bowled well (2/26 off 4). We looked comfortable for most of the chase, aiming to win with overs to spare for a chance to move through to finals, however, the scoring rate fell away through the middle of the innings and we again could not score the required boundary off the last ball, falling 3 runs short. The best of the batsmen were again Sarve 25 (25) and Gabrielson 28 (30), while Alexander 11no (7) did his best to get us home at the end.
Hopefully players will learn from the experience and will have gained some valuable match practice leading into the second half of the regular season.
